immigration agents booked for possession of fake stamps

Mohali: Two persons from an immigration company in Mohali have been booked by local police following the raid conducted by the enforcement directorate (ED) at their office in Phase X, Mohali where 30 counterfeit stamps were found on Wednesday.


The accused have been identified as Gurinder Singh, the owner of Seabird International Private Limited, an immigration company at Phase X. He has been booked for cheating and criminal conspiracy. Gurinder, along with his partner, Pritpal Singh, a resident of Sector 70, Mohali have been collectively booked under the Arms Act at Mataur Police Station. One replica of a handgun was found from the latter's house on Wednesday. The local police is ascertaining the hideouts of the accused persons.



As per information, the ED recovered 27 fake stamps of senior government officials, including deputy commissioners, tehsildar, three stamps of bank authorities and executive magistrates, and one of a doctor was also recovered. The ED also recovered an expensive toy pistol from his residence at Sector 70. The raid was conducted by ED after receiving complaints under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and recovered an amount of Rs 22 lakh besides other material.






SHO of Phase XI police station Amarpreet Singh, "Following the raid by ED in which fake stamps of senior government officials, doctors and banks were recovered, we have registered case against the accused persons under relevant sections of the IPC and we have deployed our teams to arrest the accused persons." Investigating officer Satnam Singh said, "We are looking into matter and from the evidence collected it is possible that accused were allegedly using stamps to prepare documents while charging money from customers,"
