60-cr scam: Police raid Adesh University, seize records

Panic gripped the employees of Adesh University here following police raids in connection with Rs 60 crore of financial irregularities related with the recent admissions.Though senior policemen are tightlipped over the issue, sources said that the irregularities are related with admissions to various medical courses. Police teams, led by Bathinda SSP Indermohan Bhatti, raided different accounts branches of the university and seized numerous soft and hard copies of university records.Apart from the financial transactions, documents related to the admission process and seats given to the students have been seized.Though none of the university authorities could be contacted despite repeated attempts, Bathinda SSP Indermohan Bhatti confirmed the development.SSP Bhatti said that the police received a complaint from Surinder Sidhu, a member of the society that runs the university. He is a resident of Doomwali in Haryana.Policemen said that the CIA branch of the Bathinda police is investigating the matter. “A case is yet to be registered and no arrests have been made so far. We have only taken the record into our possession. After its scrutiny, police action will be initiated,” said the SSP.Sources said that the university employees and those at the helm of affairs had approached senior lawyers late in the evening in this regard. A senior doctor deputed in the university, pleading anonymity, claimed that serious differences had cropped up among university officials from the start of the admission process.No senior functionary of Adesh University could be contacted despite repeated attempts.
